Crap! Just when I thought I was getting somewhere with a potential link…
HackaJack is still active according to Tracert though
Thanks, did email him too - and can see the signal so he is surely active, just not here on the forum…
Think your best option is pop around his place with a 6 pack
Yep, like this?

Hackajack still has an active node and a sector, but won’t let anyone else connect to him, I have a node 2 houses away from him and have had to connect them to Pluto.
I have emailed, phoned and whatsapp’ed(which he has read) and still no reply.
we are putting a sector up at Atlas soon, do you think you will be able to see that?
otherwise what about a point to point link, maybe we can find you one in one of the areas below you, but then you would need to buy the equipment for both sides of the link.
Thanks for the insight - appreciated again! Its too bad as I was thinking it might help to have more backbone links in the area.
beans007/bonkers/porchy in Monte Vista might be an option for a p2p and I do have a spare rb911 to help…but I was ideally hoping to repurpose that RB to help more folks around me on my own pole.
There is a chance I might see Atlas, but I’m worried that it will require an even higher pole on top of an already high double storey house (don’t know how the home-owners-assoc will feel about that…) but I’m willing to try
If you need some help with putting up that sector at Atlas, I’m keen to lend a hand and learn something along the way?
@darkwing I managed to get some proper pics from the roof, and @Sandman is looking into the test kit for me again to do a proper scan now that I’ve found a way onto the roof.
Does this look like Atlas or Ganymede to you? I’m hoping I just might have an option between the trees and edge of the reservoir there…
Also, in another thread in the KM Area section (here), the discussion was around potentially setting up bb links as I have good LOS down the hill here to the W/NW/N/NE. Your thoughts?
(I’ve uploaded the direction pics to my node sage_wug #14373)
I think Atlas is behind that tree.we will have to look at bb links in edgemead or monte vista
have you spoken to beans, bonkers or porchy?
I’m building up the other rb tonight to get a R52N card in it working…so far so good, trying to make it more portable for the roof…I’ll try scan with it on the holiday this week to confirm the Atlas / Ganymede direction. If I get the testkit I’ll use that as it has a better antenna and is easier to handle.
No, have not spoken those guys as yet - was concentrating on getting onto the roof and getting scans done to be honest.
We installed a sector at atlas today your are welcome to scan http://ctwug.za.net/atlas2 frequency 5180.
Thanks so much for letting me know…will give it a go asap @Ogon
Hello there,
I completed the scan - Atlas2 indeed is well reachable, but Ganymede’s sector even more so…really great signal.
Is Ganymede an option, or must I concentrate on Atlas2?
Ganymede is full
This is gonna be an awesome site and when the MDE link goes live Saturday this will be the best option by far.
What kit should you be looking at
-
https://scoop.co.za/catalogsearch/result/?q=dynadish
This is awesome gear -
MikroTik Routers and Wireless - Products
This is the cheaper option and will work scoop should hopefully have this by the end of the month -
sxt please dont but this
Ok, will concentrate on aligning to Atlas2 then…
I have a RB433ah + R52hn + Rocketdish 5g30 that I can point to Atlas2 (should I post the card’s MAC address here?), but was thinking of a Dynadish or expand the RB433 with another card and dish to create next BB link towards the west/north-west?
Agree, no SXTs…too much noise
This should be sufficient
Please do and create a login for me or @darkwing well change the password.
Thanks, will swop out the grid for the Rocketdish asap (I didn’t want to scan with the dish…roof is precarious and steep so used the grid as it’s lighter
)
Put it all on a pole, so left it mounted…RB and grid are still up there and bolted down at the moment.
MAC is 00:0C:42:6C:05:2C Atheros AR92xx
Will do the login too (edit: done for ogon and darkwing)
Connection with the grid looks so so - have disconnected but here the info while it was connected:

Got everything installed…signal to Atlas1 is dreamlike - is that not the better option to connect to?
Hi
All future communications for Atlas will happen here
https://forum.ctwug.za.net/t/atlas/
Your signal looks very good I will add as soon as I get a chance
Many thanks - appreciated
