I didn’t have permission to post a thread, then I realized I necrobumped a thread, then I suddenly could create a thread - sorry…
Can we ask JAWUG people to meet on a TS server. We can arrange some WUG gaming sessions. Would be awesome.
I am part of SpecterNetworks, mainly as a tech guy and keeping things running. We have a rather popular TeamSpeak 3 server (ts.specternetworks.com).
Regarding gaming, I spent a lot of effort for PTAWUG to get gaming brought back and become active again. Since I already am part of a gaming community as a staff member, I had set up multiple anycast addresses that run a dst-nat to the external IP addr. on the internet where that game was hosted.
All ports were blocked except the specific ones required for the games. The 3 different places that had ran these firewall rules across the WUG had provided a low-latency system that worked very well. There was no possible way to abuse this system, especially with all the additional firewall rules we had set up.
Sadly the servers on WUG never became popular on the WUG. I had started out with this project with the belief that “A player won’t join if there is not somebody else already there. These servers already have players and an active community.”
Sadly this seems to not have been the case. No matter how much advertising and notifying users on the WUG, even getting the “gaming time” back where other traffic is throttled to allow gaming to allow the best latency and performance. I am not currently sure how your gaming works, but I doubt anybody from PTAWUG will be interested, and currently there are barely any connected members on JAWUG.
The current SpecterNetworks services stats are as follows, if you would like to do something similar to what I had attempted.
