For the last month we are unable to connect to our normal Wifi connection. We normally connect to the IP range 172.23.18 range but are unable to connect. The DNS we use 172.18.1.1.
Can somebody please assist?
What is your node name?
The ip range you have given is not part of ctwug?
to be very honest - i have no clue - we bought a house and the IT guy that we bought the house from had everything installed so i have no idea. when we moved in he came and setup everything at our house and he entered those details. like i've said we've used it just as i've entered it into the above message for over a year and it worked perfectly.
Ok, you bought the house with CTwug already installed. What is your pc's IP, or can you find your node/house here? Just select network nodes on the left and scroll until you find your house. It should have a colored dot on it, with node information.
Hi thereI found my closes node to me:
Does that mean i should change anything on my side?
So is there not a node on your house, or is that close enough that it could possibly be you?
I see that is node Garble, with range 172.18.23.152 - 172.18.23.157.
I'm not at home but will see if I can ping that ip when I get a chance.
Thank you very much.
i do not believe that i could have a node setup at my house. like i said we moved in there and everything was setup. He just connected and setup my laptop to be able to download.
CTWUG uses a system called WiND (Wireless Node Database) to keep track of the geographical layout of the network, among other things. Basically a node is your location on the wug. So is that your location?
Are you on the pc? What windows are you using? If win8 or newer you can right-click the windows icon and then select 'command prompt'. Type in "ipconfig" and it'll give you your ip next to 'IPv4"
There are other ways as well, see method two.
While in this window also type "tracert 172.18.1.1" and post a screenshot here.
@Helena, is the location shown above your house? If not could you find your house on the map and show us?
You can expand the + on the right and change to Satellite view to see the houses.
@Spaffy, trace route to the above range stops at borg.
Helena I have confirmed with the guy you bought the house from that garble is you node https://wind.ctwug.za.net/index.php/nodes?node=7907
I would suggest that you register on wind and ill make you admin of that node, you can even change the node name if you wish to do so.
I will look into why your setup isn't working I do know that borg moved over to the twosix range.
Hi there - the ip address that I've entered from the beginning of thisemail is the ip the guy entered.
It looks like the problem is at borg. @Walti72 could you have a look at rb2.borg (172.18.23.28).
no look at the Ip at @Helena. Its typed incorrectly. We dont have a 172.23.x.x range
@Jypels, granted, that is also a problem, but going by the IP's on https://wind.ctwug.za.net/index.php/nodes?node=7907, doing a tracert stops at 172.18.255.106.
Please change your:IP address to 172.18.23.156Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.248Gateway: 172.18.23.158
DNS is correct.
After making these changes, please open a Command Prompt and type: tracert 172.18.1.1 and then post the result.
Thank you very much for your assistance, I will change the ip etc tonight when im back home.
Thanks again you guys are super awesome.
Hi all, I've done the change with my IP and the subnet mask. im still unable to connect. please see attached screenshots:
@Helena, can you confirm that the router is plugged in and is powered up?(possibly an obvious question, but need to start the troubleshooting process from the bottom up)
