Hello there,
Managed to put the longer 3m pole up for a better scan and am getting decent LOS to KM.
@Dan perhaps you can help - is there any space available?

Hi,
7.6km is unfortunately to far to link to the sector.
There will be a new sector at Atlas shortly which is 1km from you.
I would advise you link there when it is installed.

Dan
Hello,
Thanks for the reply - I’m a bit frustrated to be honest as I’ve been trying to connect to the WUG for more than 6 months now…there’s lots of obstructions around my home and I was not aware that there’s a distance limitation? Is that because its a sector?
I have a decent dish and the proper equipment, and I’m even keen to use another RB I have to try to help out the area below me…but just don’t seem to get connected…
Ok, will wait for Atlas
Craig
I was also not aware of a distance limitation. I was under the impression that signal strength and CCQ were the deciding factors.
If it is a private site/sector, then there could be any number of deciding factors depending on the admin.
Like in Bellville (private sites) we don’t accept SXT’s on sectors.
Yes, the no SXT rule makes sense due to noise, but what could the motivation for the distance issue be? As a matter of interest.
A sector tends to be low in gain due to the area(beam-width) it has to cover.
So your TX signal would be good as you have a high gain antenna, but your RX won’t as the sector can’t see you as well as what your dish can see the sector.
This will cause a overall degradation of performance on the sector, thus affecting the other clients.
+1 As diabolix has stated.
It can look something like -64/-78 (TX/RX). Your scan only shows TX.
Got onto the roof and took a pic toward Jupiter / Pluto
(I’ll have to get the test kit again I reckon) But anyone who is more familiar with that part - do you recognise something to give me some hope?
Or are those trees in the way already?
If I can get a solid connection, I’ve the opportunity to help folks as the view W and NW is good and open - here’s the pic:
on the 1st pic it looks like the trees are definitely in the way and no connection will work. From the second pic your best bet would be to do a test scan and hope you pic a backbone node up. If you pic someone up at a reasonable signal and have clear LOS then you can ask to make a Point to Point link, Although that this would also most likely mean that you have to host a sector or make another backbone link to make it worth the while of the backbone node as they have to use more frequency and space on their mast.
I would be keen to host some bb links - I have the other rb available and a grid (willing to invest in another dish but will need some advice)…I guess the right discussion might be: to where would this best be done for the benefit of the network? (What would be the ideal? What if…?)
I’ve posted before that I picked up bb links to brandyencoke, km2 is in sight, neptune/MajorTom/Nextlevel/HackaJack etc are near and I approached moontop right at the beginning of this quest. I guess folks might have seen it as just getting myself connected, but perhaps we need to think bigger and doing bb?
Also, I think there may well be LOS to ganymede (circle) and atlas (arrow) - is this not them on the pic?
