Attaching Stay Cables

I am planning to install a 6m pole and wanted to find out from you guys the best way to attach stay cables to the actual pole. Do you get some type of ring that fits over the pole to attach the cables to?

Thanks

I just drilled some holes into the top of my pole, (I am using an allu pole, so rust isn’t much of an issue)

If you go this route with galve steel i would say you want to spray the holes like crazy with some galve spray or something to that effect to seal the steel from the elements…

good technic, i have not seen it done that way though

Just go to these people they have everything you will need and u do get a clamp that can fit over the pole and if u gonna drill holes get a steel pole then drill your holes and do whatever u want then galvanize it the spray does not last so u will have to do it regularly and if u can’t reach it then u have to drop the pole and then do alignment again and please don’t get a aluminum pole lol unless u planning to drop it when the wind blows or when there is a storm

Agreed, I have a very hard to find wall thickness of 2.5mm on my allu pole, so it is super strong in the wind… Pole before was the normal 0.5mm or something and that blew over in the wind…

drill holes in the pole, put three eye bolts in, one facing either direction.

I would prefer some type of ring that can be attached to the pole as i plan on making a custom bracket the the pole can fit into and also be dropped via a winch (Hinged bottom) so that the pole is able to rotate and the ring stay on place when it is rotated so the the stay cables remain in place when doing alignment if this makes sense.

Will pay a visit to MES…

Thanks Guys

Hi there,

Not necessary to drill more than sufficient 40-50 mm clamp brackets available that are not expensive.
Drilling into galvanised will expose the metal and from there your problems will be endless unless u seal it well , but on a regular basis.

Personally visit your builders or brights etc and look for an ideal setup that will suit u as they sell cable also

I agree with Ripple, drilling in the pipe not a good idea ,get a 40 or 50 ml bracket,i secured my stay cables like that.

Thanks guys,

Got my pole delivered yesterday from Steel and Pipes, R343 including delivery, bargain taking into consideration the cost of having one delivered privately.

Ordered a ring bracket to go over the pole. Will be popping into MES this week to pick up some stay cables and hand winch to lower and raise the pole as well as have a custom bracket made up to allow for horizontal alignment and hinged to allow pole to be lowered without having to remove it.

Will post some build pics and notes as soon as things are underway.
