CTWUG as educational tool

Hi

I was wondering whether setting up a node or even maintaining a high site has been utilised as an educational device for kids or young adults, yet? Eg. in a computer club or part of a curriculum.

If so, which key experiences can be shared? What were the goals and have they been met?

If not, whether it would be a good idea or not so much?

Thanks, Reuben

Hi @YaguraStation,

I dont think anything like this has been attempted as of yet. It is after all in the spirit of what we stand for.

Only problem I can think of with having it set as a curriculum would be reliability, this is after all a network for the people built by the people in their spare time. So should something stop working, it wont immediately get fixed.

I look forward to hearing your suggestions.

Thanks, I totally see your arguments.

My assumption: In order to keep young people interested and motivated, the subject has to be tangible - accessible and manifested in the real world. In terms of networking and distributed computing CTWUG seems like an obvious choice as an extension to programs after the basics have been covered.

From what I see, the majority of CS tutoring programs targeted at kids and young adults are focused on front-end development. Very much understandable, since it provides tangibility and quick rewards. But in my regard many concepts and actionable skills in systems engineering and cloud computing are rooted in topics mentioned above. If we were to leave it up to higher education, as it is today… with the pace everything is moving today, I can only see the digital divide being accelerated. If one could spark interest and keep curiosity fed, that effort might go a long way.

This is all conjecture. To test these assumptions I am looking for input from everywhere and especially from people experienced in this field. I will also be attending the Codebridge Community Evening [1] this Thursday if somebody wants to come chat AFK.
