Thank you guys, I want to see if I can integrate it into my Wordpress site at all. Would be so nice
ok So I have decided to go with a self hosted install of Discourse, completely eliminating anything Wordpress.
The discourse site is up and running, but Its kicking my butt when it comes to sending out the emails for registration etc.
I get :
I have gone over these setup about 20 times, I must just be missing something simple.
Anyone have some experience with this that know a few tricks to make it work?

I see you using port 587 which is TLS did you try any other ports?
SSL is 465?
I will try that too. Including ssl 443

Does your smtp server take user@domain.co.za as username or just user?
I have to be honest, its mostly going over my head at this point so I gave asked G, my co-conspirator 
to register on the forum and answer the more tech questions.
He heads up a large IT firm, and has installed and is hosting everything in their server farm…
The mail server is hosted by Hetzner if that helps at all? I’ll get the exact detail soon.
Yay, my forum is up and running. Turns out it was mail server related.
We tried local install - mail not working.
we then bought their 1-click server install for $35 - still not working
then we bought their mail server too - Success!
So still not sure what the problem was, but its working now, so happy.
Still trying to figure out how to admin this thing, but getting there.
