CTwug highsite sector upgrades

The committee has decided that sectors on CTwug highsite will from now on be 50% funded. While we encourage major highistes around CTwug to make use of our financial assistance http://finances.ctwug.za.net/Pages/Projects.aspx, for their sector and backbone upgrades we feel the same must apply to the CTwug highsites. Clients of non CTwug highsite have to spend money to get their sectors upgraded.

We feel that it is our responsibility to the CTwug community to upgrade and maintain our highsites so that we all can enjoy the benefits of the backhaul traffic that our backbone links carries.

Thanks Ogon.

What is the reasoning behind this?

My post above was a committee decision that we all agreed to, I’m only stating it to make it clear that the following is not the opinion of the committee but mine. I feel that to many clients is benefiting from being on a CTwug controlled highsite, they have it so easy the sites get upgraded for them and they don’t have to do anything its all free for them(please note that I do take into consideration that not all clients are like this).

I think mars has 30+ clients and the people sorting out mars-problems is most of the time not the clients, here is a post from awhile when mars has some issues http://www.ctwug.za.net/showthread.php?3850-Mars-issues/page2&highlight=mars. I also want to quote Uys

Regarding a meeting, personally i don’t thing we need to have one, Mars just needs donations and have recieved NOTHING from the 33 clients connected to it in the past 2 years besides donations from someone that’s not even a client on it. So you really thing Mars is the problem???

Thanks for the donations person unnamed
.

This truly saddens me such a big highiste so little interest except for being leeches. I’m sure there must probaly be CTwug highsite where the clients are more wug driven. I suggested to cosmo to create a googlegroup just for mars so that he can inform them whats happening in their area so that clients can be more appreciative of what goes on behind the scene, and who knows maybe we can make a real wugger out of even one or two of them. I’m not trying to pick on mars just using them as an example.

Over the last year I have help a few site in upgrading the sectors were we needed to get donations from the clients, wasn’t lekker to beg(didn’t really) for donations but how else could we upgrade our site so that people can enjoy better connections. My point here is that these clients donated although all of them new that the equipment now belongs to that area and that if they move there was no cash back, but they did it anyway some clients forked out R350. Now why must these good folks earn their better connect the hard way and other get it handed to them on a silver platter?

I’ve also been playing around in my head with an idea of CTwug highsite clients earning points(Not everyone got money to donate) lets make a point equals R50.

  1. Get a point for attending meeting being area meeting or CTwug meeting(area meeting can be a bit of an grey area regarding who attended lol)
  2. Get a point for helping on Highsite maintenace days
  3. Get a point for being active on irc or forum (1 point per month)will be difficult to monitor

Maybe this can encourage clients to be a bit more active. I also know that this will be difficult to manage, anyways its just an idea.

From my point of view I would like to get good backbone link all over CTwug (hopefully a few new good ones while I’m on the committee).

Do you think asking people to ‘pay’ towards highsite upgrades is going to change that?

The reverse is, in fact, more likely to happen.

Consider the anchoring heuristic - i’s going to make those leechers feel even more privileged to not have to help/be present at upgrades/meetings because they ‘paid’ for the upgrade. It will have the exact opposite effect of what you’re looking for - it isn’t going to incite assistance, and the WUG doesn’t NEED to pursue this method of fundraising to upgrade CTWUG sites - the rebate and/or global cash position doesn’t need the support from ‘forced’ donations, where it can benefit from it in other ways.

Those who will leech, will always leech. There is no changing that. They’re as integral to the network as the active people on it.

Nothing will ever change this, and almost certainly not negative reinforcement. Becoming an active CTWUG admin/member expecting reciprocal altruism will leave you feeling bitter, resentful and disappointed. You’re in it because YOU enjoy it - others aren’t going to enjoy it as much as you do - that’s just fact. I’ve always been of the opinion when it comes to CTWUG, you give up either time or monetary donations - but that’s the ideal world. It’s never going to be like that in practice. Unfortunately, the reality is and always will be that some will donate and others won’t. Forcing donations and creating a perception of service expectations is dangerous ground.

This idea holds far more merit than forced donations to upgrades.

ongelooflik beetle. ek dink nie enige iemand kon 'n meer negatiewe bootskap weergegee het nie. wat meer ongelooflik is, is dat jy nie eens een beter voorstel kon gee nie. you go dude well done!!!

You say it’s negative. I say it like it is.

I dont need to offer an alternative to comment on a system. Simply stating what I believe, through experience, doesn’t mean I need to have the answers.

This post touches on a far bigger problem than just funding for upgrades - it deals with the fundamentals of converting leeches to wuggers!

I truly hope that is never comes to a point where wuggers are forced to contribute in anyway. Ctwug have tried over the last few years to get more peolpe involved, I’m trying to take it to another level where we can get more peolpe involed be it cash or time. Googlegroups for me is a start at least a small step in the right direction.

Using a forum like googlegroups we can at least infrom the clients(let me remind all of you this will mostly be the people that do not read these forums) of what is going on in their area. They’ll get post about there next area meeting, be informed why “rb6” is down, know when the next maintenance day is, a late minute notification of change in plans and a few more that I cant remember or think of now. We need at least a few admins in the area in this group so that they can communicate with each other. This is probably not the best solution but it is a stab at one. I employ Cosmo and however(get a few of the parow admins) want to be part of this to start a group for mars they have enough clients for one group. If we get one or two more involved clients from this I would be pleased and remember it takes time.

I would really like to see The-point system roll out but have to figure out a way to implement it.

But this is exactly what you’re proposing. Paint it with whatever brush you want, telling sector clients that they won’t get upgraded unless they donate IS forcing them to contribute…

Agreed! The fact that this google group doesn’t already exist is surprising!

I prefer to use 215/35R17 Hankook Tires for my cruze as this seems to give the best riding comfort and the great advantage is that it suits varied sizes of alloys. This is indeed one of the best option for cruze as discussed with the pete’s team.

Mod NOTE: I also prefer to use a ban hammer… oh look i did

^^ dafuq this got to do with highsite sector upgrades?

Could we maybe just try and invite mars people together for a meeting, maybe just them to isolate and Center all the attention on mars and discuss what needs to be done and how we can help. I personally feel if someone does not feel they want to be there or to hear what can be done to better mars then so be it. Many of us myself included do not read the forum everyday, so maybe A notice can be put on the audi site that there will be a meeting. Lets at least try. There are so many times I wanted to go help on Mars but rarely see a notice, Or its my own fault that I missed the notice either way, I feel like drowning in the sea of the Forum working trough all the notices to focus on what is important. If someone maybe does not have time to post a notice under Mars high site, then maybe just sms or email me and i will put it there.

Hi Cyborg.

If you just want to catch Mars issues, only look at this forum: http://www.ctwug.za.net/forumdisplay.php?37-Parow-Area

Top right under “Forum Tools” you can even subscribe to the entire Parow Area sub-forum so you receive daily emails if anyone posted in there…

Thank you Pilgrim i will do so

My pleasure.
