Just a thread to post about new developments regarding the Kingpin site in Brackenfell.

The Project has been approved. There will be two backbone links put in place to link to Slowhands and Warlock072. A date will be set for the installation. Please could the links on Slowhands and Warlock072 be put up in the mean time and pointed in the direction of Kingpin for alignment tests when we are ready to upgrade. Anyone who is willing to help with the installation please post on this thread. The more hands the better.

I am hoping Toady can spare the time to give us a hand as he has the guts to clime the tower. Or any other crazy people are willing to do it as well. I will do my best.

I currently have a 27dbi grid on a r52hn radio pointed “roughly” in Kingpin’s direction (I’ll see if the weather is good this weekend to do allignment). Graphire is the admin for the equipment on my site so please chat to him with regards to settings/frequencies.

Upgrade scheduled for around end of September. I will post a exact date when I have one.

Upgrade has been moved to this coming Saturday 23rd of August at 10H00.

Two dishes will be installed, one pointing to slowhands and another to Warlock072.

ThePrestige will be leading the upgrade, please come and give a helping hand.

The Committee has requested that we schedule a date to remove the old equipment from Kingpin ASAP. Hunted please can you arrange a date for this to happen.

We will be doing maintenance on Kingpin tomorrow from around 10am.

Installing a new link to Pot, and also aligning the one unused link to Zassie.

Expect some, but not a lot of downtime :wink:

Maintenance has been completed.

Zassie link has been aligned and is looking good.

I guessed where Pot is, as Pot was down after load shedding (It doesn’t come up after a UPS failure). We can only hope for the best.

Also, Kingpin is showing a lot of rust. I have informed the committee about this, so we will most likely do something about it before Winter to prevent us having to replace the whole mast.

I could also see TS1 giving issues, so this might also get replaced.

Hey everyone

Diabolix informed us of rust forming on the kingpin mast. The steps that will be taken to removed the rust is as follow.

  1. Clean the rust of with a coarse sandpaper
  2. Spray some galvinize spray over the affected area
  3. Paint all the galv spray area to match the rest of mast

We will be using only quality paints to help prevent rust on the same areas again.

If there is anyone that wants to volunteer for this job. Please contact Graphire he will also be there to assist. This needs to be done asap before the rain comes otherwise we’ll have to reschedule weekend after weekend.
