Langgat Sector Down

Seems as if we all need to get together and discuss the Bothasig-WUG over a good couple of beers!

'tis the season to be Jolly!

i agree, it not the time nor place online, have a happy day all!

So I finally get my equipment working, ip allocated, but can’t reach the dns!!

So I go digging through the forum, and find this thread…

Is this an ongoing problem?

Does this area not have a backup route?

I’m no expert, but if there is anything I can do to help get this working again, please advise.

Thanks

The problem at hand, and if you read this whole forum you would know, is that langgat, whom you connect to, does not have a stable connection out on the WUG, thus you will not see the WUG dns.

I offered to host and SXT to for langgat so that he could get a link to the WUG through me, but he declined it.

You will have to chat to him to see how far he is with setting up his WUG links that he had arranged.

Hope this clears it up.

Like I said before, I am more than willing to host more WUG equipment and supply links to WUGGERS, but then they just need to ask.

hey shadowclaw, thanks for the reply.

I think maybe I didn’t ask my question as well as I thought I did, I am aware of the problems langgat is having, but am more confused about the lack of redundancy that he seems to have.

it seems as though one persom moved house, and all links here went down. it looks like savage is a backup route, but that seems to be down too. An SXT at your place would work fine, but cheaptrick is closer and probably a better option, if we could just get the equipment there.(and on that, i’m not sure what the progress is between langgat/capetownfly/cheaptrick - would be nice to get updates from them)

Does anybody know if it would be worth putting a 2nd redundancy in place via Moontop or something?

morning SHadowclaw,
yep you did offer but it made no sense togo the route rellik/cheaptrick/shadowclaw/langgat/sector. it had been agreed to move my sxt from thefly to cheaptrick early in November when the problem arose. it just did not happen. Since then we have spoken again and as per the posts above, it will happen on thefly’s time, when it suits him. So at this point there is nothing i can do for the guys that connect to the sector but wait. i still have the internet but there is one or two guys that rely only on the wug I am just sorry that i took the oppertunity to invite a neighbor at this time.Have a great day!

For the guys connecting to me…We are up again. the Siruis link has been restored. So one bb link running for now! Thefly and Cheaptrick are working on another link to this sector. Please just let us know if any help is required.

Please if anyone is having connection problems to me, just let me know. Pehaps do a rescan and check your interface is Nstream 802.11 NV2 and check you default gateway wlan interface IP is correct

The problems are due to issues at Sirius in the SouthPen area, as mentioned at http://www.ctwug.za.net/showthread.php?2433-Network-Status-Notices&p=23299&viewfull=1#post23299. I also saw some comments earlier about the links to langgat being ‘unstable’… I just had a look and we are connected at 90mbps tx/rx, with an 27 day uptime on the link. Not quite sure how that is unreliable…

Anyways, I’m more than willing to facilitate a few more backbone links if it would help… I’m pretty sure I can see capetownfly as well as a few others. I’m also more than willing for new backbone links to additional areas where LOS permits…

would sure be nice, once we are up and running again to find a third bb link for this side and somehow we need to figure out a way to link in and form a ring around bothasig. i mean surely with 3 links on the sourthen side and if we have our 2 at this time…thats 5 links for bOthasig, i dont think thats half bad, but we have to sort out connecting up as ONE Unit, i personally dont want a fragmented Bothasig.

Hi,

After spending some time on langgat today, and eishkom pulling the plug out under me - it’s been a busy day.

Sirius’ problems has been resolved, and my backbone link via Sirius to the rest of the WUG is operational again. All users in the area should thus have access to the WUG again through my backbone link. The Langgat and Cheaptrick is still not operational. I will have a look once access to the required equipment has been obtained. There’s a stuborn SXT where we cannot get into in order to do the required configurations.

Chris.

Hi All,

The Langgat / Cheaptrick link is now fully operational. We can almost sustain 270Mbps of throughput, but limited the link to 180Mbps in order to maintain an good CCQ. We now have two fully operational and redundant links in place, one via Cheaptrick, and one via Sirius all the way to the SouthPen.

Many thanks to King for his assistance - appreciate it bud

if i may add my thanks to all concerned from installing to setting up and fine tuning, I am sure all of us connected to the sector would like to thank Cheaptrick, thefly,King and Savage for their part in making it happen.
Appreciate it.

Awesome job guys… Sirius now has a much needed redundancy and has already kicked in

YAY! This is awesome news!! Thanks a bunch to all that worked hard to get this all up and running.
