Link Planning

Please use this thread to discuss and plan new links or changes to existing links within the SouthPen Area.

To kick things off here we are going to be installing a 19dBi 120⁰ Dual Polarity Sector at Booster. The sector will provide coverage for users in Lakeside parts of Klein Wassenar and a small portion of Marina da Gama & Muizenberg. The sector is being funded by the clients and as such future clients would be expected to pay their share of the costs if they would like to join.

Once this upgrade is in place we will be removing the Sector at Darkfall to make way for additional backbones.

If anybody else would like to connect to this sector then please let me know as the more people we get to join, the cheaper it becomes for everybody.

Below is an image displaying the planned clients & coverage area.

Will be going into scoop tomorrow to collect the SXT for zenberg. Hopefully I will be able to install and move over my SXT tomorrow as well.

Once again I will be thinking out the box for the install on my side… prepare for some photos

Think this weekend Im gonna walk around muizenberg looking at all the flats and hopefully the managing agents of them. Check LOS and decide which ones to bomb with requests.

One must eventually agree… they cant all be F.O.S

hi,

Will somebody be able to allow me a connection to Sirius? my node no is 6749.

thank you so much.

Hey Toady/Balldrick,

Good job on the Archon link … Its better than ever.

Cheers

Can anybody advise me on how to get connected to ctwug or get it started it in the Dagama Park area of simonstown. Currently there is no LOS.

Hey guys, was thinking that we can expand to greater coverage in the Claremont, Harfield, Kenilworth area by adding a new high site.

It could ideally connect to Ariel.

I see there is a lot of unconnected clients in the area.

So if anyone nearby has any thoughts?

Also how would equipment and hardware be determined?

EDIT: BODY CORPORATE VOTED AGAINST ANY NEW ADDITIONS TO THE TOP OF THE BUILDING.

Do you have permission for us to use that site? If so then we can look at establishing it as a CTWUG HS. We would help you spec it from the ground up, load up a project and go on a fundraising drive.

If not then obtaining permission is the first step and is probably the hardest part of this process. There’s a form that we will need signed by the owners/body corp giving us permission to install kit etc. When you’re ready for this part just pvt me and i’ll help you with the forms etc.

Awesome.

I don’t have permission just yet… Will start the process of getting permission from Monday.

Thanks for the heads up.

Was wondering if southpen would be open to a link to The Stalker (#5771 I believe). Would be good considering the links that site has out. Good redundancy too

Okay I have two new possible high sites and have spoken to the managing agents.

I need to provide a proposal as for the managing agent to take to the trustee meeting.

Instead of re-inventing the wheel…does anyone have a proposal that they’ve used previously that they can provide.

Thanks

SouthPen is always open to new links and I would say a link to Prometheus would be the best. For information purposes though, how much wug traffic passes through this area, or whats the bandwidth requirements here.

I’ll also have to study the node and what links it has first to really get an idea of how beneficial it will be as a whole.

Awesome thanks. Will phone tomorrow and submit. The guy says he has many more properties from Claremont to Simonstown which are possibly capable of High sites for those interested.

This could be epic. Holding thumbs that you can pull it off

I hope so too. The biggest hurdle is they need everyone to sign off. But back up plan is the flats behind the current one.

What’s nice as well is the guy has a friend in Belville and he knows all about the WUG so he’s going to try and push it.

In that proposal, I would just add extra information as to where you plan on placing the equipment and examples of what a highsite looks like, depending on how many devices you using, choose a suitable example.

Thanks was thinking the same thing. I think for the time being the closest Will be Uranus. Was thinking two sectors 90 degrees each facing East giving 180degree coverage. And maybe two backbones? One to Ariel and another to The Stalker?

Thoughts?

Okay so the three body corporates I’ve contacted have requested we pay for the equipment being on the premises. They haven’t specified how much and that if we wanted to erect equipment we pay a monthly fee.

I have now also contacted the Villagers Rugby Club and waiting for a response.

I also have a few other places I want to try.

No rental agreements will be honored by ctwug… either its free or nothing so if they won’t budge then just need to move on.
