I’ve just set up my wireless mast on new house in Gordons Bay - I have had an active 2.4 ghz grid (wireless ISP) and 5.8 ghz grid (Work) set up on it.
The routerboard for the 5.8ghz connection has a second card with a panel in the enclosure that is currently unused, I’d like to try connect into the WUG with this - I’ve already plotted my node on WIND - Node number 12029 any advice on how to proceed? Which nodes should I look at connecting to? Are any available? There don’t seem to be a huge amount of nodes here in Gordons Bay from what I can see.
At this point in time there is only one sector for Gordon’s Bay area and this does not really have clear LOS for the clients as I’m not very high and I have two palm trees which doesn’t help the situation any. you can scan for the sector at my place and if your signal is good enough I’ll add you in the mean time till a better spot is sourced to have the sector put up.
If you know anyone living against the hill/mountain here then you could possibly help by trying to get permission to have a sector or 2 placed there.
Okay, unfortunately the panel is currently pointed in the opposite direction - and I don’t have a high enough ladder to easily adjust it.
I’ll try arrange one and give it a go.
Unfortunately I don’t know anyone on the mountainside - I do have a vacant plot quite high on the mountain (well not entirely vacant it has retainer walls on it) above you, which I’ve plotted in Wind as #12041 - but thats probably not going to be of any use to anyone until I finally get around to building (hopefully in the next year or two)
I just did a quick test and I’m picking up http://ctwug.za.net/cAfstA3 at -87 - which of course isn’t great but I haven’t even tried to fine tune it yet so I suspect it should be possible to get a usable signal.
I’ll try do a more exact alignment when I get a chance - but just to check before I do, is there availability on this sector still? I don’t want to spend time doing the alignment unless I can actually connect.
Have you moved into your place against the mountain here yet?
Unfortunately my equipment is being sold and I won’t be on the wug any longer so here is no other point in Gordon’s Bay area for clients to connect to. So you won’t be able to connect to that ssid you picked up.
Unfortunately not - my mountain plot is going to be vacant land probably for a good few years to come, plans to build there have gone badly
I feared all that equipment might mean that your sector was no more, too bad.
If there is anyone else in the Gordons Bay area who would like to establish a p2p link let me know, if we can establish a p2p mesh heading towards the strand area then we could become a bit more fault resistant and grow more easily - without even the need for a high site - though of course a high site would be grand.
Send me your cell number via pm. I’ll ask that you be added to the Helderberg WhatsApp group then you can liaise with them and see if y’all can get something going possibly
