MARS Mast replacement

The MARS Mast is in quite a bad state (see pics below), as this is a CTWUG high site, the committee has agreed to replace the mast at a cost of R3000.

The mast should be completed around 15th October 2016, so we can install (weather dependent) on Saturday 22 October 2016 from 08:00 until we are done.

Scope of work:

  • Remove all equipment from the current mast
  • Remove current Mast
  • Sand and paint enclosure and rusted brackets of current kit
  • Install new Mast (drilling can only commence at 12:00)
  • Install all kit and align

Please use the poll to indicate how many can assist with the installation, please no sightseers, only those who are willing to work!

  • Yes
  • No

About a month old

Upright poles are 3m long and galv but holes have been drilled through them.
Crossbars are angle iron and rusted badly
The 3 bolts mounting the mast to roof is also rusted.
Age of old mast is 6 to 8 years, this a guess.

New mast will be the same in size the crossbars will be 38mm round tubing. all holes will be drilled before the mast is sent for galvanizing. New mast will also have 3 extra coachscrews mounting the mast.

All bolts, nuts washers and springwashers will be stainless steel. The rust on old dishes brackets will be removed and brakcets will be treated with ns1.

Old staywires have been removed allready and replaced with 4mm plastic coated stays.
