I am a total noob to Wi-Fi networks, and have been wanting to join the CTWUG for a long time.
I have done some initial research, and my neighbour has a green dot on Wind. there is also a yellow “node” dot 2 blocks away, so I assume I would need to get hold of that admin to see if I can connect there (AlwynS).
I see he has a RB433. Does that mean I will need the same, or is the generic WUG starter kit ok?
I have got to the point where I have installed Mirc, trying to figure how to use it, as I already got yelled at from the get go, so have to figure out what im doing wrong there…
Please be patient, I have 1000 questions. Hope to connect soon…

When you have a chance take high res pictures from your roof and add them to your node.
You should be able to try contacting AlwynS, Swani & Goofy depending on which of those have sectors up. They should be near you and might have a sector. Also wait for someone with knowledge of the area to get in contact here.
I have added links to your node to both Alwyns and Mars1, could you get on your roof and take pictures in both directions to see if the trees will be in the way or not.
Follow the lines (in Google Satellite mode) from your node to the others and you will see the trees.

Spent the afternoon on the roof. I’m pretty sure I can see Mars, if its the building I am thinking of.
Scanned with a Cambium Force 200, but did not see any WUG ap’s, perhaps misconficuration or wrong equipment.
Bit more hopeful than yesterday that we might get something after all.
Convinced the company that is installing my wireless internet to put up a 3m mast for me, in case I want to put another dish on it too.
