As part of toady’s work carried out at Prometheus we have upgraded the East Sector to run Dual Polarity.
Existing clients on this sector must please take this as notice that you have 6 months in order to upgrade your kit to be dual polarity. New clients will need to purchase dual polarity equipment before being allowed to connect.
Anybody who hasn’t upgraded by 3 November 2015 will be disconnected.
A friend of mine is on Prometheus2 and his equipment just failed. He wants to buy new equipment but before he goes out and spend money on it, I wanted to find out what are the plans regarding upgrading that Sector in particular? Should he be buying Dual Polarity equipment or can he just replace his RB and keep his 5ghz grid? Otherwise, he will rather buy a SEXTANT to be a bit more future proof. Unless you have another recommendation…?
There has been some interest shown to upgrade this sector to dual polarity so I think it’s just a matter of time before it happens. Reality is that if all the sector clients club together for the kit then it’ll happen in no time.
To answer the question, yes he can either get a Sextant or just replace the RB for now and then get a dish when we do upgrade to dual polarity. While the Sextant will do the job it would be better to try and go for a RB + 24 dBi dish (which are non existent at the moment) as it’s just that much narrower. I know that Mikrotik are releasing a dish to rival the PowerBeam but quite when it’ll arrive or what the cost will be is anybodies guess. Maybe Scoop knows?
