I’ve just moved to Protea Valley and looking for a new connection.
I currently have a 27db grid and rb433 kit (the old scoop kit).

I am willing to upgrade my kit if my location will benefit the area. My node is heist #4329.

If not, a preliminary scan(just held the kit in general direction) to kaarkie looks promising at -71.
Once mounted on the roof that should be in the -60 to -70 range.

So is that my only option, or can you guys suggest something else?

Hi Hesit,

I just had a look at your node. You will definitely require a dual polarization kit in order to connect to Kaarkie, as the sector is mimo.

Also, I would recommend a dish and Mikrotik netbox/basebox for the connection. As we only allow SXT’s for distances shorter than 1km.

So as the photos are not very clear, I borrowed a pair of binoculars and I def have a clear LOS to kaarkie.
As for a new kit - is this sufficient?

Hi Heist, my suggestion is that you first borrow either an SXT from me or a dish kit and do a test scan.You really dont want to buy equipment and find out that for some or other reason you cant get a stable connection. But yeah the 30Dbi dish and the Rb912 you have listed works a treat have the same kit between me and skouperd and pushing some great speeds…Would you be connecting to the kaarkie sector or adding new kit by him?

I have an SXT that I can borrow - thanks for offer.
For the sake of a scan, will a mimo kit be that much different than a single polarity kit?
I guess I’m hoping to connect to the sector if there is space for me though I’m open to any other link suggestions.

I Just think if you going with a 30Dbi dish and an RB912 that has an gbit port and 300mbps capable, you’ll be seriously hampered connecting to a sector with alot of users on it… might get 2MBps if you lucky. Rather connect to a dedicated AP. I would also recommend you go with a 23dbi dish if you can source one as distance is so short

What about a nanobeam or something? The distance is short and 30dbi might be a bit overkill?

That being said, im not sure how micro <-> ubiq will work?

Just a quick thanks to all working on the wug connection in this area (Diabolix etc.) . Connection is stable and speeds are awesome !! Thanks guys (and girls if any)
