RB433 not picking up proper signal

Hi Guys

I am having a problem with a rb433. Here the problem. I have setup 2 rb433’s now and they seem to only pickup my rb’s & maybe one other signal close to me. I do however pickup wisp signals but no other ctwug connections. I have tried different grids, different lmr cables, different R52hn cards, another network cable, 2 different pigtails and now even new power supplies and poe injectors. The grids are even facing different direction but i still only pickup my links. Only thing i am thinking maybe could be wrong is the lmr cable to pigtail not tight enough. i only hand tightened it. Anybody that can maybe give some advise.

In Winbox, Wireless- Interfaces, double-click whatever your interface is called, go to the Wireless tab. Set as follows:

  • Scan list = 4900-6000
  • Wireless protocol = Any
  • Frequency Mode = Superchannel
  • Country = Ireland

Once this is applied, scan again

Stiaanm. Simlar results. Only finding links either connected to me, pointing to me or passing by me. Nothing else.

Check protocols too i had a similar problem once and band too AP could be in N and station side in A…just my 2 cents

I have changed the band setting to just about everything even the protocols. Still nothing but thanks all advise im open to as im struggling with this.

What CTWUG SSID are you trying to pickup?

One 27di grid is pointing towards delft/mplain area and the other is a 31dbi pointing to parow side.

Could this be related to power? Current setup is 2 r52hn cards in the rb433, 1x31dbi grid and 1x27dbi gid. The board is being powered by the poe lan port that runs to a poe injector with a 24v 3A power adapter. Do you think perhaps i should run the power straight to the board instead of via lan cable? Or could it be something else as it is picking up some signals?

Hi @Gekido

From what I can see your hardware is working properly, otherwise you would not have picked up any other links pointing at you or passing by you.

I can think of 2 things that may be happening:

  1. You simply do not have LOS to the antennas you are searching for.
  2. Your polarity is wrong. Have you tried turning your antenna 90 degrees?

Regards.

Hi Pilgrim

I have not tried the 90 degrees yet. I am busy with links but not at the moment so not looking for anyone specific. Just testing cause this is the second rb433 i have tried and im getting the same results and the minute i plug in a groove on these grids i pickup like alot of people or ctwug ssids.

Gekido we did discuss this at the training, on the 31dbi grid is your feed aligned correctly? Please post a pic.

Looking at the scan I noticed two things

  1. You are picking up your own backbone link at 62 this should be between 30 and 50 in most cases
  2. Not a lot of ssid
    a. seems you polarity could an issue(as pilgrim stated)
    b. lmr or pigtails are the problem

Test lmr and pigtail by doing a freq scan if you mostly see 0.0 it could that you cables are the problem send a pic aswell

feed should be alingend as follow (((((!))))) and not like this (((((–)))))

Hi Ogon

Yes we did discus. I have however put on 2 working grids from someone else to rule out the polarity issue. Ok will do the frequency scan and post. Thanks Ogon.

Here you go Ogon. Does it mean new Cables then?

http://ctwug.za.net/gekido 5600

Icasa asked us to please stay away from 5590 to 5700, can please look at that link and find a new frequency.

Looking at the frequency usage it looks like it could be lmr or pigtail or maybe your area is just not wifi active

Will sort out that 5600 link Ogon. Will give these lmr cable a go. Like i said when i use a groove it works. pickup allot of people, when i use the rb433 no joy.
