Rhea new mast construction

Hi everyone

Rhea current mast will be replaced with a new galvanized mast. The height of the mast will stay the same the mast location will be moved into the corner of the house. We will have to build a bracket for the mast, the bracket will be mounted to the house and garage to keep the mast about 2.5m of the ground, pics will be posted.

For the sake of interests and transparency I will keep you guys posted as to the building and basic cost of the mast here.

Process to be followed

Step 1

Building of mast and bracket

Who will build the mast and bracket - Ogon and Mossel
Starting date - 9th July 2016
Finishing date - Not sure depending on weather

Step 2

Send mast for galvanizing
Date 30th July 2016 I’m hoping this will be the date

Step 3

Install Bracket

We hope to install the bracket one week before we install the mast, this is to save time and make sure that there isnt any major issues on the install date.
Date 6th August 2016 I’m hoping this will be the date

Step 4

Removal of old mast
Removal of pole on side of house, this pole is still hosting the kingpin kit and owner would like it to be removed(need a lightweight guy for this job)
Installation of new mast and new kit

The owner of the house wanted us organize a crane to install and remove masts from his house and also ask us to get insurance for the day if something should go wrong.

I ask a crane company or two for quotes and the quotes where from R5000 upwards for the day and we needed to get our own insurance. I would like to thank @Stiaanm for organizing the insurance at R1500 cheapest quote we got by far.

A very big thank you to Nicky from MLB area who works for Tandem cranes and organised the crane for us for no charge.

Nice job!!
Hope you get it done before the weather acts up…

Welding on mast is complete and only a few holes left to drill still. Will finish this coming Sunday and take everything for galvanizing the following week.

The install date is 6 August 2016, the owner is gone the weekend of the 23rd July and I don’t want to do the install on the 30th as it end of the month.

Please let me know if anyone is interested in helping it will be a full days work.

I will def try and give a hand on the 6th ( Work permitting of coarse)

As long as I don’t have to climb the mast, I will be fine
