Update minimum required RouterOS version to 6.31

I’m planning to update minimum required RouterOS version to 6.31 for OSPF.

This should not be a major issue as most routers are already there. These are numbers of routers by sub-version type:

6.0 - 6.9 12
6.10 - 6.19 22
6.20 - 6.29 53
6.30 - 6.39 600

572 routers in total are already at 6.31 or better. This means we’d need to upgrade 115 routers.

The above is from nms and may include non-OSPF routers.

So I’ve done like 16 of those on CTWUG sites.

So the routers on NMS running the oldest RouterOS (6.0) are:

On WMS (which includes more routers not running OSPF) there are a couple of routers still running 5.x?

# lastip, osver
172.18.52.14, 5.24 - rb1.neocities.ctwug.za.net
172.18.214.249, 5.16 - ???
172.18.169.77, 5.23 - rb2.simba.ctwug.za.net.
172.18.172.181, 5.26 - ???

Maye we can get these upgraded. If someone can contact the node owners?

are you able to pull a full all list of ips rbs with older ros? maybe i know a few of the guys and i can ask them to upgrade or assist.

Hi @Spin I will do a update on rb2simba.ctwug.za.net just waiting on gametime as there is too much packet loss to do it now, I keep timing out but will do it abit later. Will also see who I have access to and make changes were needed.

To get this going I’m going to set the minimum requirement on Housekeeping to RouterOS v6.19 as a start. So we can upgrade the oldest ones first. Please expect some emails if you haven’t updated router OS on OSPF rbs.

just a quick question why not make it for all the rb’s on the wug? There are loads of rbs still running old RouterOS

i was going to mention the same:sunglasses:

All but one upgraded to 6.19 or higher.

Going to set the Housekeeping scripts to 6.31 soon.

I don’t have a problem with that idea. But it’s not currently part of our rules.

I’d suggest site/area/network admins always ensure that RBs are kept up to date as good practice anyway regardless of the rules.

Doesn’t need to be the newest. In fact probably better to run the latest bug fix version. But even with those one can wait a while before upgrading. Mikrotik has been known to have buggy first releases. This is what I upgrade to when I upgrade CTWUG owned sites.

This is the bugfix version from mikrotik.com:

I am also thinking of rolling out some form of automatic updating feature.

I have upgraded all of my RB’s to 6.40 stable. Fingers crossed…

I’ve updated the minimum RouterOS version to 6.31 now. Should see some more routers not up to spec.
