Thank you @Gekido and Committee member!! You guys are doing an awesome job even with all the challenges you have faced this year. Hope we can have a braai at the next meeting. PS @Spin could we possibly have badges added to our profiles for the awards received like we had for the previous awards?

What was that one for? Don’t recall.

Don’t have the certificate close right now, but I got “awarded” for buying just about all 2nd-hand equipment advertised at the time

Hi Committee,

I see as part of the minutes, a change of venue is up for discussion and one areas being Kuilsriver as that is what’s been offered and is “central” for most wuggers. I would just like to ask if any consideration is being made for those living in the south as central, in this case, seems to be very subjective.

Each time there is a venue change it keeps moving more north and, with no disrespect, the lack of quorum seems to lean on the side of bad venue selection.

Hi Toady

With no disrespect I think you misreading this completely wrong . This is called minutes for a reason. This is what was suggested at the meeting by wuggers not the committee. Kuilsriver has stood up and offered a venue in there area for the next meeting for free. This however is not set in stone. Make no mistake we have noticed the drop in attendance and we are trying our best to fix this.

We as @Committee are always open to suggestions.Problem we have is everyone works so leaves us with very little time to scout around for venue’s hence we depend on our wuggers to suggest some venue’s if they can be made available. Bigger picture most venue’s are booked a year in advance so we have very little to work with also. We need to plan for the year ahead basically.

Here is another scenario that we sit with if we move this venue to the south wuggers from the north would feel its to far and then start not pitching for meetings for example. We can try our best to please most wuggers but there will always be a few thats not happy unfortunately

If you can provide some suggestion the committee can definitely look into this.

Not misreading it at all. Obviously a venue change is in the future otherwise it would not be part of the minutes. The issue is not the venue change anyways… it’s the fact that kuilsriver is being labeled, and dare I say considered, as central, which seems like a complete disregard for users south and deeper.

I’m by no means saying move it South but if you are going to consider a new location, consider everyone and choose locations that are in fact central and not choose one that potentially excludes certain groups just because it is free. Monte Vista wasn’t free and was a very good location right off a national road.

All one needs to do is look at the density on wind, select key locations and then ask everyone if they know of places in and around these key locations.

Kuilsriver is being labeled because they raised this point at the meeting. This is not meant to be a disregard to Any wugger. It was said at the meeting i mentioned it. I can change this if this is seen that way? Bigger picture we had a vote of the current venue. It was on the forum, guys voted for the venue and surprise guys are now unhappy and some are now not pitching. As per my previous post we can select a Venue in the middle and some wuggers will be mad because of the venue’s location. We can only try and please everyone but we probably wont

I know this is a great place however renting this venue is no longer a option to us for CTWUG meetings. They do allow us to rent this for training purposes though. We are not choosing a venue because its free. Again it was mentioned because it was said in the meeting. We will go with any venue if it is viable and of course price is reasonable.

I hear what you saying however this would be like selecting a sweet from a lucky packet for us.We dont know what we choosing. We can choose a location in the middle and might be completely wrong place bad lighting/bad parking area the list can go on. Wuggers live in this area’s and they know these places best hence why we require there help. As mentioned before we can have a vote guys on venue, they will vote and still be unhappy.

Again if wuggers know of a good place please suggest. If you can give us contact numbers it would be a great help. We can create a separate post for this.

I happened to have the WiND database open when you asked this.

So, just for fun, I calculated the average WiND node location (roughly the centre of the wug) for nodes with the following criteria:

  • Node is marked active on WiND
  • Node is within box defined by the following. This is to remove random weird nodes from the average.
  • latitude<-33.75 and latitude>-34.5
  • and longitude>18 and longitude<19

The centre of CTWUG is in Belhar:

I was looking for a node that is online and the closest to that location. I believe we need to hold our meeting at @Steamblazer1 's place:
https://wind.ctwug.za.net/index.php/nodes?node=16480

Anybody know him? Does he have a braai?

Anyway it does however seem of the venues we have chosen that Kuilsriver might be closest to the the middle of the wug though still some way off the centre.

So making the previous location at the Tygerberg High School not far from middle :stuck_out_tongue:

Neither Kuilsrivier. It’s also close. Does show that Italian club might have been too far.
