Deep South chat

Hi

This thread is intended for discussion and notices amongst CTWUG users in the Fishoek, Noordhoek, Kommetjie, and Hout Bay areas - aka “Deep South”.

Mind the baboons!

“Deep South” wuggers please join the #ctwug-DeepSouth channel on IRC

I have setup a mumble server for voice comms for the Deep South. Mumble is similar to Teamspeak/Ventrillo.

I know some of my sector clients are using skype to communicate while playing games over the wug with other guys in the Deep South. So I thought if they wish to increase the number of players joining in their games, having a voip server people in the Deep South can connect to, to find out what game people are playing that evening might facilitate more people joining. Also it can be used for just general chat or if perhaps our main wug link is down or there is work being done further up the line as a place to come and ask whats up.

Server location is server.pmurgs.ctwug.za.net on port 9987 (teamspeak port to fit in with ctwug qos rules as per Pilgrims advice).
Mumble client install package for windows can be downloaded here

Use it / don’t use it, up to you guys.

Mmm, duplication of effort, doh! Have had one running for months. mumble.aragon.ctwug.za.net

It gets used occasionally, but ppl mainly hang on the DC hub.

Beetle001 says he would prefer a teamspeak server. So let me know if thats what you guys in the Deep South would prefer and if so, I’ll see if I can run one. I know there is already a ts server on the wug, but if one of the hops on our link to the main wug goes down, then we get cut off from it, so having a local one is a good idea I think.

I’m sure I’ll be alone on this, but I won’t be using Teamspeak as it’s not as platform independent as Mumble.

Richard gave me the idea of using Mumble from my phone. There is a Mumble client for Android, w00t!!!

Howdy doody

HitmanV is currently offline. As a result David, Luke, and Myles are WUGless. David has been notified…

HitmanV has returned.

Hiya

I’ve setup anonymous FTP on my server if anyone wants to use it. Apart from serving exactly what’s on my DC share, it also allows uploads, which might come in handy in certain situations. The upload directory is semi-private in that anything created in it is invisible, but accessible if you know the name of the file/directory there. Obviously if you’re backing up confidential info you shouldn’t rely on that - encrypt with PGP!

I will be auto deleting uploaded data that is unaccessed/unmodified for 3 months.

There is work scheduled for Saturday morning at Rage, on my link and another new link. Expect link to main wug to be down for the Deep South during that time.

Thanks for the update Pmurgs!

dude you need to let us know  when you doing maintenance before hand could of helped you guys out as well We doing an install on Saturday maybe 2

There seemed to be a break between Slangkop and TheFarm link, service has now been restored.

Hey guys, when did you link up the south. Forgotten about it months ago, actually picked up baywug on my laptop and ended up back here.

31 October 2010. So have you plotted your node on wind yet? :stuck_out_tongue:

Ewers node went live in Capri today. It has a sector covering the Capri flats. First sector client is also hooked up.

Congrats guys. In other good news, we have a new wugger in Hout Bay today… Welcome Juan!

Dmon is having a braai tomorrow (saturday). He’s invited all Deep South ctwug members to attend. You can locate his spot on wind or its 38, 2nd avenue, Fish Hoek. Time is 3:30 for 4pm. He will have braai going, just bring your own meat/food and drinks. Hope to see some of you there.

Will try to make it just to show my face as I already have plans for this evening! So won’t be braaing - just pop in for a chat!

Hey Dmon

Nice get together this afternoon, good to meet the other fellow ‘DeepSouthers’

Thanks
Georg
