Rebate funding from Scoop

Hi everyone

A bit of a heartbreak has happened this morning when we were informed that Scoop will be withdrawing any form of rebate to CTWUG with effect end of July 2016. This is directly related to abuse of our account in the sense of buying stuff for other purposes than anything even vaguely WUG-related. We have tried to talk to Scoop as to the possibility of re-instating Rebate, but abuse causes a major admin nightmare for them which they cannot see their way clear of. What should be clearly noted is the fact that we have been advised that if abuse on the account continues, we will be switched to retail pricing, which will increase our costing at Scoop with another approx 30-odd percent. PLEASE DO NOT DO THAT.

The implications:

  • ALL projects we agreed to fund out of rebate will have to be put on ice until the committee come to some sort of conclusion as to how to handle the projects already approved.
  • In effect we have lost spending power to the effect of around R80 000-00 per annum, which I am sure you will agree is a major blow to us.

The forward:

  • We have obtained some detail as to the latest incident of major abuse, and will give feedback on this once comms have concluded as to how the perpetrator will be dealt with.
  • Funding of new projects will now be even more difficult than before due to this, as we generate around the same amount per annum, and this 50% blow in funding will hit us VERY hard.

Below an excerpt of the mail from Scoop (the portion below the *'s will be discussed and posted later):

We have unfortunately decided to discontinue any rebate on the CTWUG account as of July 2016. This is
due to abuse of the account as many users are purchasing products for personal and business use. Not
sure if this is to intentionally receive more rebate or just too lazy to register their own account with
Scoop.

************

We have had a long standing relationship with the CTWUG and would like to continue to support its
members with dealer pricing, however if we find unlawful use of the account we will need to switch it to retail.

Please pass this message on to the community, we would appreciate the cooperation.

Regards

you guys only notice this now? Ask any Tom Dick & Harry out there on what account they buy and they will say “CTWUG”. This should have been regulated 10 years ago already. There are even non-VAT regged companies out there that buy on CTWUG account

Purchase Order from the Treasurer before any buying via the account can be made.

Luckily I’ve got my own account with Scoop

I also have my own account, but use both depending on what the purchase was for, any purchase for WUG purposes was done mainly on WUG account, anything else was done on business account.

On monitoring/controllling, there is absolutely no way that I am administering PO’s for 1600 nodes. We are supposed to be grown-ups, so I do not see the reason for spoonfeeding adults…

Your problem is not 1600 nodes… it is the other 10000 people that is NOT on the WUG that purchase on CTWUG account.

I will NOT control the purchases of 1600 nodes, the others are not nodes so they do not come into play as they will be automatically rejected by that kind of system

Could Scoop not have given the WUG a heads up as to the abuse happening on the account and named the abusers so that something could have been done about it before it reached this point.

think they already did a while back but ja like Jeeva said anyone can buy from scoop using CTWUG as account and they not even on the network scoop does not have a database on their system to check the name or nick against so they don’t know if this person is on our network or not

Here is the link Letter to CTWUG - Scoop Purchasing - #9 by Beetle001

Show the names of the offenders.

If you abuse it, take the punishment of being named " a public asshole". Someone that screws-up everything for everybody else.

If they are current WUGgers, cut their links and ban them for life.

The rebate system is fundamental to the CTWUG funding model for our expansion. This seems to have been destroyed by a few people looking to make a quick buck for themselves. This seems to be wuggers and non-wuggers alike.

I am quite frustrated that everyone knows this but nobody tells anyone about it. If people on CTWUG knew this they should tell us. Things don’t get fixed if you don’t tell anybody it’s broken…

No offence but people must be really stupid to think that the R 80 000 rebate is WUG-user purchases for WUG related stuff. I would put it at 10% WUG related stuff, rest is all open for public purchases on the CTWUG account. I would guestimate it at a majority and not “a few people”.

At our offices alone a guy that doesn’t even know of the CTWUG nor what it actually stands for told me he buys his home network items from the account at scoop and there are tens of them that use it and doesn’t even know what the acronym is about.

Would it not be possible to give scoop a list of current “active” clients and maybe incorporate a system where new members/people that want to connect to the wug to work through the committee to get their equipment at scoop, maybe use one of the committee members as a reference so scoop can cross check on the validity of the order?

I guess you are calling me stupid then?

This is you thumb-sucking

Thumb sucking a good estimate rather than to think that R80 000 rebate is 50%+ WUG related/users purchases. lol. Welcome to the real world. Check the old article of 2013.

You guys were riding the wave of non-wug purchases because CTWUG received a nice rebate. Now all of a sudden that it is jeopardised you guys want to act, a couple of years/decade late I think.

If you knew about this why did you not let the committee know so we can stop these guys ordering like this? Please PM us the names/emails so we can update this and let Scoop know they can invoice these guys at full rates.

If it’s such an open secret please PM me the names and we can action it. And stop insulting me.

Yup, I say name and shame these assholes, and I know it can be done because they ask when you make a purchase, name, wug node, and gamer tag.
