Like i said tryed to help out.but we cannot have areas doing there own thing.i see you edited your post quickly😜
?? Areas doing their own thing? please eloborate on this?
please tell me where I said he HAS to use AC? My post was made with a "
" and the post just after that I stated that it isnt a rule but we try to stick to it… Heck do you know how much money our area invests in links? We even help other people with equipment just to have proper links. Im not fighting with anyone but what happened to having area admins? seems that an area or network admin means nothing anymore as most people just do as they please?
i wish you had a 0.1% idea what we have to do in the background…
Please dont float me that.you have o% idea what i do in the background .we can clear the air at gm on saturday
I reckon 2x AC SxT’s would be fantastic
There is your biggest problem… “What I do in the background”. How about saying “What we do in the background”. There’s no “I” in team
Plus Gordon808 I think you are misunderstanding what I am trying to say… Bellville is a well oiled machine it takes alot of parts to work together the way it is…
Take the following example: Highsite A —350mbps throughput ---- Highsite B —450mbps throughput — Highsite C — 350mbps throughput — Highsite D. All running AC equipment. We plan and implement these links over a course of a few months. This means that between Highsite A and Highsite D there is 350mbps of capacity (The slowest link in the chain). Now Highsite E comes and want in on the Pie… He has LOS to highsite B and highsite C. It gets decided that he will split the existing link between highsite B and C. He puts up equipment capable of pushing 100mbps of traffic. Now I ask you what would the throughput be between Highsite A and highsite D? Yeah 100mbps. So we lost 250mbps of throughput because nothing was thought out and done right.
No wonder why certain areas are struggling like they are.
We are going off topic here
Offer was made accept don’t accept lets move on
@diabolix did you forget about the core router that will be needed for the two ubnt devices?
OP would be better of selling the equipment and getting 2 x https://scoop.co.za/ubiquiti-5ghz-airmax-ac-litebeam-23dbi-cpe.html and still have change left.
all good …
All was mentioned to @Zassie so he is aware of what is required.
I told him 2 X AC litebeams and a Mikrotik Hex unit.
Thanks for the read guys, lets all kiss and make up on Saturday (I’ll pack popcorn just in case).
Right, so, This got derailed quickly. Everybody put your panties back on while i try and salvage this!
So, The idea for the AC would be nice, however, the main idea behind this link and also @Gordon808’s offer really all comes together nicely.
So currently Zassie <-> Solo is not preforming as well as i would like.
The idea with @jacktherabit is that he will become a middle man in this link. Which should hopefully provide better LoS and speeds for all parties involved.
Currently the link between myself and solo are with some 25dbi power beams.
This is where the offer for the 2x power beams comes in really really nicely…
Voyager owns the dish up on my pole and going this route will keep all of @jacktherabit’s equipment at his site.
He will point one at solo and one at Zassie.
This will make things easier as kit only needs to be aligned on Zassie and on solo instead of replacing kit. Also it keeps every bodies kit were it originally started.
Overall the speeds might not be AC, but they will definately be a very good improvement to what they are now AND we will get a new person on the wug!
@jacktherabit The only thing is that you would need to get a core so that we can route traffic for you.
/Thread-Un-Derailed
… Mmmmmm…
ok looks like i may need to come knock on your door so we can chat…
immm keen to get on the wug and dont mind playing middle man.
@Zassie, will the Kit that Gordon have work for what we want to do? even
though its not AC … excuse the uneducated question here but why will
this kit not work in Bellvile?
… could we test with it and see if it works? or is that a bad idea?
I did hop on my roof last night quick and did a 30 second look. i can just
about see Zassie’s kit (i think) but SOLO i cant see at all. ok there is a
tree in the way so will likely have to do a scan to see if we can see each
other.
Think i need a list of what i need to get this up and going … lol…
Hey @jacktherabit
I would say, jump on your roof again and take some hi-resolution photos and post them here so we can have a look.
The whole AC thing is not an issue, the kit that @Gordon808 is will to swap for is more then fine for what we wish to do.
We can always try a test kit scan for piece of mind, but those photo’s i’v mentioned above can tell us all we need to know hopefully.
So i would say next step is to take some photos for us. all the way around you.
Just a question, How high would you plan on going? Like length of pole.
For instance i am surrounded by tree’s yet because i use a 6m pole i can see over them.
ok cool…
well was thinking 4m ± luckily have not gotten the pole or bracket yet…
cool will take some pics…
Be a real man and go 7.2m.
LoL, just teasing.
Jong…
7.2m sounds nice, but those Boeing’s going over my house might just clip it
at that height…

Let them clip it, will teach them to fly higher lol
Hi there folks,
@Zassie so finally got a few mins to get on the roof and take a few pics, so the double story house to the right of the chimney there is a nice tall Palm, i can see 2 dishes through it, which im guessing is Zassie, then the other pic is behind me and to the left of the tree, i think thats Solo? also took a pic down the road looking towards Glen Gary as i know there are some guys down that side too. bu the looks of it a 4m pole will do?
(hope this helps Zassie?? )
